An incident of assault with a Hindu youth outside the world-famous Deva Sharif Dargah located in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. The name of the youth is being described as Harish Sharma, a resident of Dussehrabad (or Dussehra Bagh). He came to the shrine with a Muslim woman (who he consider relatives) from his neighborhood to offer a sheet. The woman went inside to pray while the youth were standing outside.

The incident was about 70 meters away from the shrine. It is alleged that a shopkeeper (or prasad/sheet seller) abused the young man calling him a 'pandit', objected and forcibly washed the tilak on his forehead. The video shows a man wearing a hat stuck the young man's neck, slapped him around and then took him to a shop, pouring water on his head with a water bottle and erased the tilak. The CCTV video of the incident surfaced on Thursday (February 5, 2026) and went viral on social media, spreading tensions in the area.

Victim Harish Sharma filed a written complaint at Deva Police Station. Police have arrested an accused while taking quick action (some reports also reported arrests). Currently the situation in the area is being described as normal, but the incident has batory of discussion as attempt to hurt religious sentiments and disturb harmony.
